The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), located at cor. Freetown Road and St. Thomas Street, Belize City, Belize, has the following vacancies starting the September 2018/2019 school year.
Job Title: Hospitality/Catering Instructor
YWCA is looking for a Hospitality/ Catering Instructor for its Helping Early Leavers Program. This is an adjunct instructor position. Successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to instruct in both the HELP program (day program) and the Adult Skills Program (evening program). The Hospitality/Catering Instructor will be directly supervised by HELP’s Administrative Principal.
Responsibilities:
Adhere to the policies regarding instructor conduct and performance
Create and maintain a professional teaching and learning environment
Implement skills training featuring both theoretical and practical components
Follow guidelines governing student supervision, performance, and evaluation
Develop and submit course outline prior to start of course/term
Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans
Report all problems and irregularities to the HELP Administrative Principal, after attempting to resolve issues within the classroom
Organize on the job training for Hospitality/Catering students and supervise, monitor and evaluate students during on-the-job training
Attend all staff meetings called by the General Manager and/or HELP Administrative Principal
Work closely with the YWCA Snack Shop Supervisor and Caterer for benefit of students and program
Make recommendations for improvement of the program at the end of every term
Assist the HELP Administrative Principal in placing students upon graduation
Ensure efficient and appropriate use of supplies, equipment and facilities
Qualifications: Minimum of a valid Special License, Certificate or Diploma in technical area or other equivalent qualification. Relevant teaching experience and expertise in area being taught for at least 4 -5 years.
Job Title: Sewing Instructor
YWCA is looking for a Sewing Instructor for its Helping Early Leavers Program. This is an adjunct instructor position. The Cosmetology Instructor will be directly supervised by HELP’s Administrative Principal

Attend all staff meetings called by the General Secretary and/or HELP Administrative Principal
Make recommendations for improvement of the program at the end of every term

Job Title: HELP Administrative Principal
YWCA is looking for a full time member of staff to administer the overall operation of the Helping Early Leavers Program (HELP).
The HELP Administrative Principal reports to and takes directions from the General Secretary.
Responsibilities:
Implement and maintain the HELP program policies and establish procedural guidelines
Assist in the recruitment and hiring of instructors
Contribute to the adherence to policies governing student admission and conduct
Function as a conduit between teachers, parent/guardians , staff and management
Demonstrate initiative and foresight in administering and promoting the HELP program, which is YWCA’s educational skills training program from girls ages 13 -18 years
Oversee the operation of the revenue-producing components (snack shop, catering, beauty salon and sewing) of the HELP program
Operate with the staff and instructors of the HELP program to organize and operate profitable programs while providing maximum skills training
Assist and contributes to the promoting and marketing of the HELP program and the products and services provide through the HELP Program revenue-producing components
along with the General Manager and staff of the HELP program, take necessary steps to ensure profitability and sustainability of the Program
Require submission of instructor’s lesson plans, observe classroom techniques, evaluate student performance, review graduate placement success, monitor and evaluate instructor effectiveness.
Conduct formal annual performance appraisal for each instructor
Act as mediator for disputes involving student(s) and/or teacher(s)
Work with the YWCA Education Committee to evaluate effectiveness of and recommend changes to existing programs
Facilitate session for instructors due times of absenteeism
Provide ongoing support and offer constructive advice and feedback to instructors
Where necessary, conduct on-the-job-training and training workshops
Perform all other functions/tasks normally associated with administering the revenue generating aspects of the program and managing an educational/training institution or delegated by General Secretary
Qualifications: Licensed Teacher with teaching and business experience. Preferably someone with at least 10 years of combined teaching and administrative experience. Business or entrepreneurship experience/knowledge is an asset. Must hold leadership certification and a minimum of a first Degree in Education.
Job Title: High School Prep Instructor
YWCA is looking for a High School Prep Instructor for its Helping Early Leavers Program. This is a full time position. Successful candidate will be directly supervised by HELP’s Administrative Principal.
Responsibilities:
Develop and submit a course outline prior to start of classes
Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans
Design PSE class in a way that most effectively prepare students for the exam
Follow the PSE curriculum in designing and preparing classes
Adhere to the policies regarding instructor conduct and performance
Create and maintain a professional teaching and learning environment
Follow guidelines governing student supervision , performance, and evaluation
Under the supervision of the HELP Administrative Principal, establish and monitor goals and progress of each student
Report all problems and irregularities to the HELP Administrative Principal, after attempting to resolve issues within the classroom
Attend all staff meetings called by the General Secretary and/or HELP Administrative Principal
Make recommendations for improvement of the program at the end of every term
Ensure efficient and appropriate use of supplies, equipment and facilities
Qualifications: Licensed Teacher with at least 10 years teaching experience at the primary school level. Familiarity with the PSE curriculum and experience teaching STD 6 is a must.
Job Title: Caretaker
YWCA is looking for a Caretaker for its facilities at the Cor. Freetown Road and St. Thomas Streets. This is a full time, reside-on-the-premise position. The successful candidate will be directly supervised by the General Secretary.
Responsibilities:
Around the clock security of all YWCA buildings, sports & pool facilities, and grounds
Basic maintenance of YWCA facilities
Preparing auditorium and rooms for activities and rental
Clean auditorium, restrooms, kitchen, and grounds
Keep all common areas (hallways, auditorium, restrooms, etc.) clean and disinfected on a daily basis
Perform minor repairs to buildings, furniture, and equipment as necessary or as requested
Make sure buildings and grounds are secure on a nightly basis.
Supervise use of YWCA buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds during non-business hours
Assist with YWCA fundraising activities
Other activities as may be required in taking care of and securing YWCA facilities.
Qualifications: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent with experience in basic maintenance and handy-man skills. Ability to drive manual vehicle would be an asset.
Job Title: Pre-School Teacher
YWCA has three vacancies for teachers for its Pre-School. These are full time positions. Two (2) of the vacancies are for the period September – December and one is a permanent position. Successful candidates will be directly supervised by Preschool Head Teacher.
Responsibilities:
On a daily basis , prepare and conduct classes in a professional manner
Utilize classroom methodologies that encourage independent, meaningful, and varied learning through play
Document classroom activities and individual performance as required by Head Teacher
Pursue all academic degrees and/or professional training required or considered necessary to uphold the educational standards of the pre-school
Attend all meetings, training workshops, and other outside the classroom activities as deemed necessary by the Pre-School Head Teacher and/or the YWCA General Secretary
Give feedback to Pre-School Supervisor concerning effectiveness of pre-school curriculum and make recommendations for improvements
Assist with fundraising activities for the YWCA, including fundraising activities to support the Preschool
Assist in the organization and execution of all special events held at the pre-school
Help with notification of parents regarding all special or extraordinary pre-school activities
Conduct systematic monitoring that guarantees the safety of pre-school children at all times
Qualifications: Licensed Teacher with minimum of at High School Diploma or First Class Teachers Certificate or Primary Certificate in Teaching Level 1. Experience teaching at the pre-school level.
YWCA is a Not for Profit organization that conducts fundraisers on a monthly basis. Volunteerism is a huge part of the successful operation of the YWCA.
